30th Annual Brooklyn-'Kingsboro' Arm Wrestling Championships Set for Brighton Jubilee Festival, 8/26

The Brighton Neighborhood Association and New York Arm Wrestling Association are joining forces to present the 30th Annual Brooklyn-'Kingsboro' Arm Wrestling Championships at the 36th Brighton Jubilee Festival on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. The action will take place in F/O 3264 Coney Island Ave. off Brighton Beach Ave. going toward Brightwater Court and the Beach Boardwalk. Admission is Free for spectators, and for contestants, entry fees are $20 for men and $5 for women. There are amateur and pro categories and $100 cash prizes will be given to Brooklyn's Strongest Arm title winners, male and female.

More than 100 men and women will compete for the prestigious Brooklyn-'Kingsboro' Arm Wrestling titles. Contestants are asked to register and weigh-in between 9:30 a.m. and 12:45 p.m., as the event starts at 1:00 p.M. Sharp. The final matches begin at 3:30 p.m. in front of a live, cheering audience. There are no residency requirements and categories are divided into right- and left-hand weight classes for both amateurs and pros. Awards are given for first, second and third place and award winners are invited to compete at the Empire State Final in November. The New York 'Golden Arm' Series consists of up to six preliminary championships and a final.

Gene Camp, Founder and President of the New York Arm Wrestling Association said, "Everyone has a chance to compete regardless of age, weight, sex, dexterity or experience. The Brooklyn- 'Kingboro' Arm Wrestling Championships brings together locals from the five NYC Boroughs and Long Island but also has drawn contestants from as far away as Turkey, Brazil, Russia and other distant lands," Camp continued, "Do to Hurricane Irene, the Brooklyn Championships were canceled last year, so we expect a great turnout with some of the best arm wrestlers in the tri-state area competing for Brooklyn's Strongest Arm." …The defending Brooklyn champions are also ranked as the best arm wrestlers in NYC. Giorgi Gelashvili from Sheepshead Bay and Joyce Boone from Gowanus, Brooklyn are both expected to defend their titles. Boone was also crowned with the lady's premiere arm wrestling title, 'NYC Queen of Arms' last April at the NYC Big Apple Grapple International, held in Manhattan.

Spectators have the opportunity to watch some awesome feats of strength while strolling through one of the oldest and largest festivals in Brooklyn." For public transportation take the Q train or B1 and B68 Buses to Brighton Ave. to reach the Festival. By car take the belt parkway to exit 8 and follow Coney Island Ave. to Brighton Beach Ave. and the beach boardwalk .
