Now in its fifth year of fostering a space for the evolving avant-garde, the Avant Music Festival (AMF) provides composers an unprecedented opportunity to realize their vision over a full concert evening. This year featuring world premieres from Alpert Award-winning composer/performer Alex Mincek and New York School luminary Alvin Lucier. The annual all-day John Cage celebration explores the far reaches of indeterminacy with Variations IV, and stages Cage's final opera, Europera 5. There is a live-streamed composers roundtable discussion, moderated by Olivia Giovetti. Closing the festival, AMF artistic director and composer Randy Gibson leads a performance of the next evolution of his Apparitions of the Four Pillars.

Randy Gibson's Apparitions Of The Four Pillars In The Midwinter Starfield Under The Astral 789 Duet
The closing performance of the festival features Gibson's ongoing meditative Apparitions Of The Four Pillars in a newly revised three hour performance featuring Randy Gibson, Voice and Sine Waves; Jen Baker and William Lang, Trombones; Drew Blumberg and Erik Carlson, Violins; Meaghan Burke, Cello with video sculpture by Oscar Henriquez, and lighting design by Kryssy Wright.

The CURRENT SESSIONS is a NYC-based dance organization and presenting series that represents the works of early and midcareer choreographers and movement-based artists. We seek to provide a place for contemporary dance to thrive, serving as an incubator for the furtherance of our choreographers' artistic visions. Volume IV, Issue I. will feature 12 choreographers and 2 guest artists in 4 diverse programs, with a primary focus on works that have a dance theater/performance art influence and dance with media/technology-based collaborations. Aphra Behn, that delicious diva of 17th century sexy sophistication delivers a wickedly witty tale of defiant women and the men who love them. Amorous fops, lusty widows, mistaken beds and narrow escapes are some of the delights packed into this exciting ride through the backstreets and bedrooms of London's wild and wooly past. Performed by The Queen's Company's signature all-female cast, Aphra Behn's Sir Patient Fancy is a night of theatre to remember.
