No, nothing to do with the dire state of the backstage areas of Londons theatres but the return of one of the best thrillers ever to hit the stage.

Ira Levins 'Deathrap' is to get its first ever London revival.

The West End Is A 'Deathtrap'.

A new production by Mathew Marcus and with new script additions taken from Ira Levins original notes and draft is to open at the Wyndams Theatre in summer next year.

The man of the day, Simon Russell Beale is to play the lead while casting is still on going for the second lead.
It has a small cast of four.

'Deathtrap' was a huge West End success in the late 80s playing nearly four years at the Garrick Theatre opening with the wonderful Denis Quilley.
It has one of the most shocking, heart attack inducing scenes ever to be experienced in the theatre!!!
I was in shock for ages after.
Any one who knows the play will know and of course wont tell you what that is!!!

Martin Shaw of 'Judge John Dredd' fame was due to open in a West Production of it back in the mid 90s but it just disappeared.

The West End Is A 'Deathtrap'.
Don't even bother with the truly dreadful film adaption that starred Michael Caine and Christopher Reeve, just wait until next years revival.

Great news.

I read a rumour the other day that Robert Pattinson is potentially in the running. That would be very strange if he were in; the theatre would be FILLED with fangirls, and I'd be the only one fangirling Simon Russell Beale. XD

Can't wait to see it, whatever goes down. :)

In other news, *I* have Custard Creams. re: The West End Is A 'Deathtrap'.

Oh my god, that would be crazy. Have you seen that the now almost godlike 'RPattz' is getting attacked by fans and run over by taxis in NYC? You wouldn't be able to get near the theatre, and you'd get murdered by fangirls. And we all thought the Wicked fangirls were nuts. I hope this doesn't happen, for the sake of everyone's sanity. Although I would like to see the pretty of Robert Pattinson in the flesh, this would be pure chaos.

Edited because I forgot the most important part about custard cremes: Share? I have Coconut Cookies.

Malted Milk for me.

Wouldn't it be lovely if the tradition of West End thrillers was resurrected? Double Double was a great one, and of course Deadly Nightcap!

I saw this in the West End years ago: original production but takeover cast with William Franklyn in the lead.

I can remember the moment Mama refers to very well, as the woman sat next to me literally screamed and grabbed, with both arms, the bloke she was with.

And, yes, the film is dire.

Sssssch!- William Franklyn.
(posters of an age will know what I mean!)

It was Mr Franklyn I saw at a matinee and then we saw 'A Chorus Line' at Drury lane for the second time.

I don't get those references, but I was eating Custard Creams when I posted before, and I was enjoying them so much that I thought I'd give them a mention. :3

Is this running to late September? That's when I'm in town.

I actually have no idea what this play is about, so I'm looking forward to it!

How about a stage version of "Lock, Stock and Two Biscuit Barrels" by Guy Rich Tea?

Or "Goodbye Mr. Chocolate Chips" starring Garibaldi Wilmot?

Or maybe "Bath Oliver!" featuring the Jammie Dodger?

Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Ryvita", anyone?

Curious that Colin Baker and Anita Harris got headline billing and the William Franklyn part went to someone unknown (to me).

The tour flopped majorly with Ms Harris not doing anywhere near half its run.
It played to less than 100 a night in most towns!
