Eurovision 2009#1
Posted: 5/12/09 at 3:51pm
Am watching the heats of the Eurovision on BBC3 and Romania is performing. Part of the set for their act is a tree and it looks like one of the gliding wings has been ripped from the fly tower of the Broadway Theatre and flown to Russia.

Anyone else watching the show? Its literally the campest thing east of the Palace Theatre :)

Hooray for Norway! I was secretly rooting for Malta as I loved Chiara's last Eurovision performance, though this year, the song was not nearly as strong. But as soon as I heard Norway, I assumed they were going to win, and boy, was it a landslide! Not even close. I have to admit, I've listened to Fairy Tale about 10 times since Saturday. It's so much fun and their performance was wonderful.

PS - Loved the Quidam and Fuerza Bruta performances!

Fun? Yes! But performance wise it wasn't so hot. That boy is barely a mediocre singer. But that ended up not counting when he is pretty and the song had a catchy hook.

I thought it was funny that Graham Norton said that he had startd off liking it but had turned to wanting to slap him!

To be honest, there are plenty of pop superstars with weaker voices than his. His pitch and tone were actually quite good. If anything, it was his vibrato that needs maturing. His looks and natural charisma helped quite a bit, but the song itself and the performance by the entire team put it over the top. If the competition were about the best voice, then stuff like the Finnish monsters in 2006 wouldn't have won, but it's supposed to be a "song contest" (though in 2006, it was apparently a costume contest).
