Plays in London this Summer#1
Posted: 4/23/09 at 6:44pm
My class is spending a month in London, and we're set to see Romeo & Juliet at the Globe, but we're free to pick a 2nd show to watch. One of us isn't crazy about musicals and asked that we watch a depressing play and another suggested we watch something with British comedy. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or just in case this kid changes his mind about musicals, what's over there that isn't/hasn't been on Broadway yet?

Playwise - maybe Calendar Girls?

Musicals-wise - the new production of Sunset Boulevard is unmissable!

Also, Sister Act the musical opens in a few weeks time - not sure what it will be like yet, but it looks very promising!

Hang on, you are in London for a MONTH yet you are only seeing TWO shows? Seems abit of a waste to be honest.

We're only seeing 2 together as a class. It's a creative writing course, and not a theatre one so I wasn't too surprised by that. Just to clarify, this is a summer course and not a class that's going on vacation for a month, so while we do have a lot of things and places that we're going to be seeing as a class, the rest of the time we'll be free to do whatever.

And thanks for the suggestions, I'll look into them. War Horse sounds promising.

Don't see Calendar Girls - it's a very weak adaption of an average film.

Check out the National Theatre website to see what's on. Some of their platform presentations may of interest as well from a writing point of view.
