So farewell Dr Who after filming the specials in January. Anyone care to bet Hamlet will tour worldwide next year?

Great minds think alike. I was just coming to ask what you people thought the possiblity was of him taking Hamlet to Broadway?

Just a small question here..if it went to broadway would it be a case of Patrick Stuart selling this show on broadway, or is Tenant known well enough out in America?

This leaves me in two minds 1. there is the prospect of many more wonderful performances from Tennant outside of Dr Who but 2. I lose my favorite Dr. But I think I'm happier with the former!

If Hamlet goes to Broadway I may be tempted to plan my next trip around it-I saw it in Stratford and loved it! Here's to the Hamlet tour!

(Though I should add that I will miss the idea I might run into Tennant filming Who here in Cardiff where I live!)

People here definitely know who he is, but I think it'd be the RSC stamp of approval selling the show more than anything.

re: David Tennant free to tour

Whenever the NT or RSC go to Broadway it is almost always a dead cert sellout (note i did say almost, not always!). To have such a production as this 'Hamlet' go there and also have a name that a large percentage of Americans know thru 'Dr Who' will only help its success.
The last time the RSC performed Shakespeare in New York it was with the stunning production of 'A Midsummer Nights Dream' starring Desmond Barritt, Lindsey Duncan and Alex Jennings. This production sold out on a U.S tour before arriving on Broadway in 1996. A year later it was filmed with its original stage cast almost intact and has been on TV around Christmas time almost every year since.

I am wondering whether we'll have a Hamlet dvd in the same way that Ian MacKellen's King Lear has just been released (in a very nice film).

I'd love it if that were to happen, but I'm doubtful. Someone asked someone at the RSC who would know and was told that as of now there are no plans for a DVD. Of course, I am sure they'd make a crapload of money by releasing something like that, so it's always possible...

I'd love to see a dvd of Hamlet as well, but I'd much rather see it live, with Tennant and Stewart, on Broadway.

Is the McKellen Lear avaible through Amazon or just the RSC website?
