Bill Kenwright casting?#1
Posted: 6/26/08 at 9:54am
Hey everyone! I hope everyone is well. I know that there are a few people in casting on the board as well as actors, and I'm wondering if anyone knows how casting works for Bill Kenwright productions? Is it done through a casting agent or are CVs sent directly to Bill Kenwrights offices. I'm a young actor and would just like to know for future reference. Thanks guys, hope someone can help, Joe x

Hi Joe!
If you dont have an agent yet then go direct, as you stated , by sending Kenwright your CV. He has been known to take people on thru personal applications BUT be warned- you will be the one that will be taken advantage of so just be careful - you know his reputation!

Thanks Wickedboy that's a lot of help. I'll send my CV at some stage then, one thing I don't understand is how to know when. I mean, when he is casting for particular productions/roles etc. I must say, a couple of months back, I was with a college group outside the Garrick waiting for a bus home, and he drove past, well he was driven past! Not only that, he rolled down his window and shouted hello and waved for about 5 minutes! lol I thought this was very friendly of him, as we were all so starstruck!! lol

I knew him years ago - and his reputation - he's a good chap in many ways. Very friendly and good fun at parties and socially. Never worked for him though. I know he's known for being tight and all the rest - but in a lot of ways its better than working at midnight in Tesco!

Spoken in the last London production (1986) by the wonderful, recently departed, Cyd Charrise

I see that Equity have taken a page in The Stage to formally apologise to BK and BKL about what they said a couple of weeks back about him as a producer and employer!

The reaction from Kenwright's guy on the cover on the stage a couple of weeks ago was quite cutting though, too. They give as good as they get! (I mean criticism, no double entendre there...)

Wickedboy2, when Cyd Charisse was doing NO, NO, NANETTE in Melbourne, Anna Neagle who had played at the Maj prior to NANETTE in CHARLIE GIRL caught the show on her way back to London from Auckland (and CHARLIE GIRL) as she had been offered NANETTE in London. So Anna saw Cyd play the role of Sue in NANETTE, years later Cyd would play Anna's role in the revival of CHARLIE GIRL (spooky). Does that make sense?
