As this is the Hairspray thread, I thought I'd post this.

After Leanne closes as Tracy, they will surely hold auditions for a new lead. Are there restrictions for this role? Obviously the whole fat thing is a point?

My gf would be a fab Tracy and her agent has expressed an interest in her but she might be too big?

Is Gf for girl friend or gay friend?

That would be novel a transvestite Mrs Turnball and Miss Turnball.

what a bizarre thread!

"Obviously the whole fat thing is a point?"
hmm...tis quite an important part of the plot....

Well if her agent suggests interest in it then shouldn't it be the prod team to tell her shes too fat??

If all the rumours are true, some of the leads are staying. Although there has been no official confirmation yet.

Surely no-one could be rejected from this show (of all shows) on the grounds of being too fat.

Is this thread a wind-up?

I'm not sure exactly what the Original Poster was saying (maybe he's a strange, deranged homeless man who lives in a box outside the theatre where Hairspray plays and is convinced he's Michael Ball? If so, that'd be pretty cool), but I think I know what Mark was saying.

Obviously, they want Tracey to be a big girl, but he was saying maybe his girlfriend was a little bit bigger than they'd want for the role. Look at Leanne. She's really not all that fat, more what you'd call 'chubby'. And also, Tracey's supposed to be sort of short-and-chunky, and if she's someone really tall and solid, that might make her look too much like Edna.

But I don't know what Toanythingtaboo is on about. I know they use a fat suit for Edna, but I'm pretty sure Tracey is 100% natural girl body. Unless, of course, Toanythingtaboo is suggesting that there is no such thing as real fat people, just cunningly disguised thin people who walk the streets in well-made fat suits. In which case he should join the original poster and have a deranged hobo party.

Schmerg_The_Impaler, you hit the nail on the head with the intention of this thread. In relation to what you said about Tracy's height - thats what I meant. My gf has been on several online sites and theatrical forums that have been talking about height in musical theatre and she fears she might not have any chance at all because she is a taller girl. I'm not talking 6ft but shes over 5'7 put it that way! She is a beautiful girl and curvy - pefect for Tracy and her agent feels so too but the only worry for all of us is her height. I hear casting director David Grindrod turns many people away because of their height? I don't want to build her up only for her to get knocked down....
