Hey!

I'm interested in finding out the relationship between theatre audience's & tourism.
So would love to you opinions....

How far on average do you travel to see shows, and is this a regular journey or not? and what motivates you to go?

Thank You for your help!!
Tash

It depends entirely on the show. I traveled from Florida to London three times to see Love Never Dies when it was playing at the Adelphi and once to see the Phantom 25th Anniversary performances at the Royal Albert Hall. Far more typically, I travel from Florida to New York about 2-3 times per year to see Broadway shows.

We live in Charlotte NC and have been to the West End to see shows three times since 2012. We love London and especially enjoy the theater when we have visited. We try to see at least one show that is not on Broadway when we visit. Our last visit was in December and we actually had easier time getting tickets for "Harry Potter And The Cursed Child"  in London than trying to get them on Broadway.

There is pretty much no limit to how far I would travel to a show I really want to see. I live in South Wales and travel to London up to 20 times a year to see theatre. I also go to New York once or twice a year. In the last couple of years I have made theatre trips to Manchester, Sheffield, Cirencester, Colchester, Leicester, Leeds and Edinburgh and Paris .

The reasons for making the trips vary from wishing to see a specific show (especially if it is new writing) or a specific star. And, most often, to support friends in the cast of shows as many of my best friends are actors.

I have traveled from Indiana to Sydney to see the Julie Andrews directed revival of My fair Lady and to Perth, Australia to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I visit London 3-4 times a year (14 shows in 10 days), and Broadway about 4 times a year (6 shows in 4 days.) I also subscribe to one theatre company in Los Angeles and have traveled there for numerous other productions. Considering the 12 hour time difference and opposite hemisphere, I'd say Perth is close to as far away as I could get.

I travelled from Barcelona to London several times to see Les Mis, Phantom of the opera and wicked. Then to Madrid to see some spanish adaptations of Broadway musicals and I'm planning to fly to New York to see Hadestown and Beetlejuice.
