Eeeek! It's not often I get an exclusive!!

Connie Fisher will be appearing in Leonard Bernstein's Wonderful Town at the Lowry in Salford in Spring 2012.

This will be a joint production between the Manchester Royal Exchange, the Halle orchestra and the Lowry. The RX's stalwart Braham Murray will be directing and the Halle will be conducted by Sir Mark Elder. The production will run for 16 performances and may subsequently tour.

Apparently this doesn't become public knowledge until February 24th but I know there are so many Connie fans out there that I simply couldn't wait to tell all my West End board darlings.

I would like to see this show, written by a excellent composer and the show won one of the first Tony Awards.

Donna Murphy was incredible in the last revival.

Not to be a Connie hater but she isn't in Donna's league.

Well to be fair, hardly anyone is in Donna Murphy's league!

But I love Connie and I think she'll be fab in Wonderful Town. Will have to do some research to see how i can make the trip to Salford! Wonderful Town has such a superb score.

Thanks for the heads up, Scripps!

Wonderful memories of the Maureen Lipman production at the Queens in the late 80s.

Good casting. Not too many people saw the illusive Donna Murphy as I recall. She was dire doing a number from the show on the Tony Awards.

Donna sang the role well (at least on the CD), but I didn't get to see her live (nor did many other people.)

Brooke Shields, on the other hand, was absolutely AMAZING in this role - she honestly could have toured it and sold out houses. Ruth was written for someone who's an OK but not the best of singers, and Shields managed to completely sell Ruth's comedy and awkwardness like it's nobody's business.

As for Connie...depends on which role she's in, but the show is a fantastic little charmer so I'm wishing it success.

in my opinion, either part is better suited for her than Maria in 'the Sound Of Music'.

I thought Connie was really wondeful as Maria - she succeeded in making what is a pretty ordinary show seem utterly compelling.

I saw Donna Murphy in Wonderful Town and she was fabulous - truly carried the show because her Eileen was not that strong.

My only exposure to Ms Fisher was in the Menier's They're Playing Our Song and I quite liked her. She could be a good fit for Ruth Sherwood.
Faced with these Loreleis, what man can moralize!

"truly carried the show because her Eileen was not that strong."

Whereas Shields had a fantastic Eileen (Jennifer Hope Willis) and they played beautifully off each other.

In the original production Carol Channing succeeded Rosalind Russell. One of the few times in her career she played "straight".

I'd like to see this-like the show (though never actually seen a production) like Connie, I agree that she made The Sound of Music something I was actually engaged with. She's also been great at concerts etc that I've seen her at, hoping this goes elsewhere as well!
Maybe I'm on nobody's side http://phdconfessions.blogspot.com/

The Lowry seem to be doing quite a few revivals at the moment, their Chorus Line was supposedly great.

And, i hate everything, but Im not 100% offended by this artwork.

Still, I remain to be sure of the Connie casting. We shall see.
