The Scottsboro Boys, the ambitious new Broadway musical by songwriters John Kander and Fred Ebb, will close Dec. 12 at the Lyceum Theatre six weeks after its opening.

At close, it will have played 49 performances and 29 previews. "We've never believed more strongly and passionately in a show as we did with The Scottsboro Boys," stated producers Barry and Fran Weissler and Jacki Barlia Florin. "It's a show we felt we had to produce and we're proud and grateful to have brought this last great musical from Kander & Ebb to Broadway. We encourage anyone who loves challenging, provocative and original new musicals to see us in our final two weeks at the Lyceum."

Rats! We had tickets for 10 days after the closing date. Any suggestions of how to spend a Wednesday evening in New York?

Word from the stage door this afternoon-
the 'official' notice has not yet been posted by the producers at the theatre!!!
Could be good news- watch this space.

Don't hold your breath, I'm not, I actually believe I will be seeing the penultimate performance.
Strange cos I saw 'Steel Pier' on its last weekend.

Damn I wanted to see this too.

My early Jan trip is losing shows by the minute-what will be left by the time we get there?!

>This has to the shortest run of any of their shows<

70, Girls, 70 had the shortest run of their shows - 35 performances, versus 49 for Scottsboro.
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

Smax, I forgot about '70, Girls, 70'!
Our London production ran longer and was sensational with the divine Ms Dora Bryan!

The London 70 Girls 70 was quite a different show to the Broadway production - with 2 new songs and a new book by David Thomson & Peter Martin replacinbg Joe Masteroff's original book(Thomson co-incidentally wrote the book for The Scottsboro Boys).

The other tragic aspect of the early demise of the Scottsboro Boys is that is must reduce even further the prospect of a Broadway outing for Kander & Ebb's The Visit - and when I saw that at The Signature in Arlington, I thought it was one of the best musicals I had EVER seen.

There are only two left to be produced on Broadway, 'The Visit' and 'The Skin Of Our Teeth'.
Chita is still trying to get 'The Visit' to Broadway!

I saw The Skin Of Our Teeth (re-named All About Us) in Westport Connecticut, starring Shuler Hensley, Cady Huffman and the now sadly late Eartha Kitt - and it was fabulous.
