There is a really interesting thread on "Whatsonstage" about which of Phantom, Les Mis and Mamma Mia will close first.

Im in two minds about this. They are terrific shows but is it worrying that no new shows will get into the theatres of the long runners.

Will they run forever?

Fortunately nothing runs forever. Hallelujah ... Grease is closing. Mamma Mia is still box office gold, but is also MUCH younger than the other 2.

Les Mis will be running for at least another ten years.

I'd like to see Mamma Mia go first, but only for the entirely selfish reason that I've never seen the inside of the refurbished Price of Wales Theatre and would very much like to without having to sit through even one act of Abba hits...

Eastwickian : I fear that by the time Mamma Mia leaves, the Prince of Wales will be in need new restoration works.
Having said this, they've done a great job and it's a beautiful theatre.

Yea, its a total rebuild inside and out.
I worked there for the original 'Aspects' and was totally blown away when I was shown around the 'new' theatre- beautiful, if a little soulless.
(Luckily i didn't have to sit thru 'Mama Mia'!

I think Les Mis will go first... possibly in another 3 or so years. Followed by Mamma and then Phantom. Pure guess.

These shows I could see stil running in 10 years time. They have excellent marketing and audiences to run and run.
