The last time we went to see Into the Woods was at the Linbury/ROH. It was abandoned after ten minutes because of flash flooding in the dock area. As we'd booked an hotel as well, it was an expensive and wasted weekend.

Tomorrow we're seeing Into the Woods at the Regents Park open air theatre.

Now if everyone can pray to their own gods please...

There's only a chance of 30% precipitation for tomorrow night. Good luck!

I was there. The show was fantastic.
Ran into Mr. Sondheim and Jonathan Groff.
It rained for most of act 2 but it wasnt pouring down, so it was fine.

I was at the matinee yesterday (7/8/10) and our performance was cancelled after about 40 minutes, due to torrential rain! However, what I saw was very good, barring a couple of fluffed lyrics in the opening. I thought the direction and design was very good as well, using the many levels they had to great effect. I'm now trying to book train tickets, so we can see the whole thing!

The evening performance was saved!...bit chilly during the 2nd act though.

Lots (maybe too much) movement, and a busy set, but overall pretty good.

A boy narrator worked well, a real giant, Jenna was great, Waddingham OK, the Baker a bit off with his words a few times, the Wolf a bit like a creepy David Essex, maybe not a strong enough voice, I'll remember more if anyone else does!

Sorry, I tried to post it to the thread, but it didn't go very well! As I said, from what I saw, I really liked the set, and how it was used. It was very interesting to see the normally very static opening have bits having all over the three levels.

Ew. I do not like that set. Looks far too over-complicated.

Looks more like a bad woods-y set for West Side Story or August: Osage County.

That said, I haven't seen the production, so...

I don't know what came first...the complicated set which led to lots of movement stuff or lots of movement needed a complicated set to justify...

I agree Little Red Riding Hood was superb. It is a great part though and must be a dream for the actor.

I'm sure we saw her in the Brief Encounter tour last year(?)

I was also at this performance and was totally devestated when it got cancelled as we'd travelled up from the North West to see it.
Never mind. I agree the production was looking to be excellent. Red riding hood was excellent and so was the wolf. I was looking forward to the transformation of the witch. I liked the boy who was playing the Narrator, he was also very good. We are heading down to see it again in the next few weeks and we are all doing sun dances and keeping our fingers crossed. :)

I was also really disappointed when they cancelled, having travelled from up north as well. I should hopefully be going to see the final matinee, just waiting for tickets from the online exchange form. I'm hoping that being the final matinee, they may try to plough on regardless of the weather, however, knowing my luck, we'll be cancelled on again, for both the first and final matinee!

We are going to the matinee the week before so will keep our fingers crossed for you too. To be honest I wouldnt have fancied dancing around on that wet scaffolding so it was probably for the best that it was cancelled. Will let you know how we get on and what we think overall. :)

It was FABULOUS!!! Completely adored it. Particularly loved Hannah Waddingham as the witch and Beverly Rudd as Red Riding Hood - Excellent casting.

The set works incredibly well. What I really loved too was how the mood of the piece changed as the night went on and the sun went down.

It was PACKED tonight, all seats full and about 20 people on each grass bank. Going to be a very hot ticket! No way can this transfer to the West End though, the set and design are too location-specific to this venue.

I hope it doesn't transfer, to be honest. I'd rather it cause a huge splash and be really amazing in Regent's Park than it fade into being just another poorly-attended Sondheim show in the West-End.

today certainly seems to be a washout, like Tuesday, I was going to see it tonighht, it would be rude not to considering a work 5 minutes walk from the place and I finist at 8pm, but being a manager, i can alter my times slightly to suit, but in the end too much risk of rain and the seats are going to br wet, so opted for Avenue Q instead.

So going to try my luck for next Saturday matinee.

Beverly Rudd is also in a new BBC3 Sitcom called Inn Mates. The pilot can be seen here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcthree/2010/08/exclusive-watch-new-comedy-inn-mates-online-now.shtml
Beware, it's very much A BBC3 kind of show- so there's some questionable humour!

Saw the production last night. What a magical setting; my first visit to the Open Air and it was wonderful as the light faded and the story got darker. I did see the original Phoenix Theatre production all those years ago but have few memories of it so was coming to see this afresh and really enjoyed it.

Aside from the magical setting there are some fabulous performances - I loved Michael Xavier and Simon Thomas as the Prince's. Their Agony was excellent. Hannah Waddingham was in great form as The Witch, a hugely impressive performance. The lovely Jenna Russell was once again in her element doing Sondheim, this time as the Bakers Wife, a part which suits her perfectly.

As Sondheim season in London really gets into full swing, this is a great producion to whet the appetite - bring on Passion, Merrily and Company Don't rain on my..
