I've been reading that thread from day one, and as it goes on its been frustrating me more and more, in the end, I just HAD to say something!

I love the bit about us sucking the life out of the shows.

I don't think they use their brains and think about their overblown revivals of La Cage, Little Shop and Guys and Dolls which all flopped

However the same 3 shows which were done on small budgets and allowed the show to speak for itself without the excess were all huge hits here.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna

Mama (and co), I love you.

Thanks for weighing in, guys. I'm not very confrontational but I was trying my best to stand up for the show, which I love. And for West End theatre, too, as they continue to attach nasty, negative phrases to it. So I foolishly posted that vid from the London cast (and of course they immediately slammed it as THE WORST THING EVAH, I should have known better!). I am not as bitchy as they, so snuck away quietly.

I don't know, any musical that has Trevor Nunn's name attached to it can seem like a long and lifeless night in the theatre for me.

Arghhhh! No don't indeed. I knew he didn't but thinking of the many British productions that have crossed the Atlantic bearing his name you can't but wonder if those on the other board are thinking that he has done this one too.

Ugh what an awful thread, considering the shows message of acceptance.

ugh indeed. Well if those La Cage boys are 'ugly' lord help the rest of us! I'm actually a woman and I'm jealous of how good they look in a dress!

Second there seems to be an inablity to grasp a musical which isn't all gloss and jazz hands which is a shame, because these people are losing out.

Third, why don't they cast Patti LuPone in la cage, then no matter how 'not pretty' it is they'll love it! (Miaow I know!)

Ah well, the people who actually went seemed to love it.

Putting a proper smile on my face.

Glad those reporting back from the first preview seem to have been wowed by it so far.

Some of the pre-preview 'critiques' on the other board seem to be channelling Arthur Laurents!
Seen some shows in my time....

Well, it's no surprise that virtually all the most evil comments are from those who haven't seen this production. Ad the anti-British comments are reprehensible (and probably have nothing to do with this production at all).

WTF? "Our poor, unfortunate, deluded and taste-free friends on the other side of the Atlantic." -PalJoey

Glad to see that most people who actually bothered to see it are enjoying it, though!

As an American living in London, that thread certainly explains why all my British friends want me to be Canadian.
