Take Flight is a new musical by award-winning song writing duo Richard Maltby, Jr., and David Shire, with book by John Weidman. The creative team sees the award-winning trio of Sam Buntrock (Director), David Farley (Designer) and Caroline Humphris (Musical Supervisor) return fresh from their Olivier Award-winning success with Sunday in the Park with George.

The Menier Chocolate Factory is developing a reputation for producing intimate productions of musicals, including the critically acclaimed productions of Little Shop of Horrors, Sunday in the Park with George, The Last Five Years and tick, tick… Boom!  

Take Flight weaves together fact and fiction to tell the funny, moving and inspirational stories of the pioneers of flight – the Wright Brothers, Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart.  

This world premiere production will feature Sally Ann Triplett in the role of Amelia Earhart. Sally Ann is best known for her work in musical theatre which recently includes: Miss Adelaide in Guys and Dolls at the Piccadilly Theatre, Miss Berta in Acorn Antiques – The Musical at The Theatre Royal Haymarket and Reno Sweeney in Anything Goes at The National Theatre and Theatre Royal Drury Lane and of course the now infamous musical Carrie at the RSC and on Broadway. Ian Bartholomew will play the role of George Putnam. Ian appeared in the West End productions of Tommy and Dead Funny and as the Baker in the originAl West End production of Into the Woods. He has just finished playing the role of Shylock in The Merchant of Venice for the RSC. His film work includes Beyond the Sea, Prayer for the Dying and Little Dorrit. He is also well known for his role in the hit TV show Spooks. Michael Jibson is best known for his Olivier nominated role as Joe in Our House in the West End. He has also has appeared in numerous RSC productions as well as Brighton Rock at the Almeida. Television work includes Band of Brothers directed by Steven Spielberg. His film work includes the current release of Flyboys. Elliot Levey has appeared at The National Theatre, Young Vic, Soho Theatre and the RSC. He is currently shooting the film Filth and Wisdom directed by Madonna and on television he appeared in Sex and the City. Sam Kenyon has appeared in two films – Venus and the upcoming Sweeney Todd. His theatre has included The Soldier's Fortune, Amadeus, As You Like It (Wyndhams) and Sweeney Todd (Trafalgar Studios). 

The prestigious American composing duo Maltby and Shire have written many shows together including Closer Than Ever; Starting Here, Starting Now and Baby. Individually, David Shire is an Oscar-winning film score composer (All the President's Men, Norma Rae and, most recently, Zodiac). Richard Maltby, Jr., wrote the lyrics for Miss Saigon and devised and directed Ain't Misbehavin' (Tony Award – Best Director) and Fosse. John Weidman is a long-time Sondheim collaborator, having written the book for Assassins, Pacific Overtures and Bounce.
