THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG Announces It Has Recouped After 12 Weeks!

The producers of THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG have announced that something has gone spectacularly right. With their advertising campaign encouraging people to 'SAVE MONEY - DON'T COME' which apparently has not worked, the show that they capitalised in the West End for £250,000 and opened at the Duchess Theatre at the beginning of September, written by and starring unknown out of work actors, has already recouped all of its production costs and is now turning a weekly profit.

It is a remarkable fairy-tale for a play which started its life at a London fringe venue in December 2012 with only four paying members of the public at the first performance. THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG has since sold 170,000 tickets at a value of nearly £4,000,000. Writer and cast member Jonathan Sayer says: "Due to the amazing success of this production I will be taking my girlfriend on holiday and can now afford to buy myself a winter coat. I hope my girlfriend doesn't read this because the holiday is a surprise."

Producer Kenny Wax says: "The only problem we have is with audience members complaining that certain lines in the show are being drowned out by the continuous laughter. We have attempted to solve this problem by selling play scripts in the foyer. But this has inadvertently created another opportunity because there are now 15 international productions in the pipeline. Talks are also ongoing for plans to open the show in New York in July with the UK cast."

West End impresario and Duchess Theatre owner Nica Burns says: "This little gem of a play, written and performed by a group of unemployed drama school graduates from LAMDA is, to their utter surprise, on its way to being the most successful play at the Duchess in the last decade. This makes me laugh with delight. Just like the audience. As they tell me that no one else will give them a job, they will be seen at the Duchess for a very long time to come."

The show has only been playing for a few weeks in the West End, but it has already been seen by, amongst others, Harrison Ford, Tom Hardy, Star Wars director JJ Abrams, Joanna Lumley, Robert Lindsay, Simon Bates, Gary Wilmot, Ellie Goulding, Joe Pasquale, Angus Deayton, Jeffrey Archer, Jeremy Irvine, Claudia Winkleman, Mel Giedroyc, Tim Vine, Jon Culshaw, Gaby Roslin, Andy Nyman, Iwan Rheon, Janet Street Porter, Richard E Grant, Anneka Rice, Kyran Bracken, Mike Leigh and Paul Merton.

THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG is directed by Mark Bell, with set designs by Nigel Hook, lighting by Ric Mountjoy, sound design by Andy Johnson, costumes by Roberto Surace and is performed by Mischief Theatre members: Rob Falconer, Dave Hearn, Henry Lewis, Charlie Russell, Jonathan Sayer, Henry Shields, Greg Tannahill and Nancy Wallinger.
