FIREBRAND: A NEW QUEER MUSICAL Unveils Lead Casting for Camden Fringe Run
Firebrand: A New Queer Musical, by Merilee Ettia and Robbie Hébert, is coming to Camden Fringe this summer.
Initial Casting has been confirmed for the workshop of Firebrand: A New Queer Musical, by Merilee Ettia and Robbie Hébert, coming to Camden Fringe this summer.
Starring as bisexual swordfighter Julie d'Aubigny is Irish actor-musician Lara Smyth (she/they). Firebrand marks her professional theatre debut, credits in training include Beth/Cover Jo in Little Women and Jack's Mother/Cover Witch in Into the Woods.
Starring opposite Lara, Caitlyn Calfas (she/her) plays lesbian modiste Cecilia Bortigali. Her career highlights range from In the Heights as Nina (Moonlight Stage Productions) and Legally Blonde as Serena (5 Star Theatricals) to new shows such as Ella Enchanted (South Coast Repertory) and City of Ember (Union Theatre).
Firebrand is a new queer musical about an old queer struggle, between living authentically and the safety of conforming. Inspired by true events, it follows Julie as she arrives at the court of Versailles to find an unexpected romance and an unlikely community.
"It's incredibly exciting...queer storytelling is something I'm deeply passionate about" said Lara "I believe these stories deserve to be celebrated and brought into mainstream media".
The public workshop will take place from the 17th-19 of August as part of Camden Fringe.
