The Winds Beyond Chang’An is a sweeping Chinese Dance drama set in the Tang Dynasty that tells the story of a young noblewoman who rejects an arranged marriage and sets out on a transformative journey along the Silk Road. Through distant lands and cultural encounters, she discovers resilience, purpose, and independence. Written and directed by Greater Washington Chinese Dance, the production features award-winning choreography from China and blends classical Chinese dance with rich historical storytelling to celebrate courage, cultural exchange, and the enduring power of women’s resolve. Total runtime is approximately 100 minutes with a 10-minute intermission.
