Dance Theatre of Harlem and Washington Performing Arts co-present a three-performance engagement anchored by Firebird, Geoffrey Holder's reimagining of the Russian folktale set in a Caribbean landscape with choreography by John Taras and music by Igor Stravinsky. The program also includes Robert Garland's Return, set to the music of Aretha Franklin and James Brown, and George Balanchine's Donizetti Variations. Invited guests from the UNCSA School of Dance perform in the Firebird corps de ballet. The engagement marks the continuation of a 50+-year collaboration between Washington Performing Arts and Dance Theatre of Harlem.
