The rumors of a Broadway transfer for Second Stage's New York premiere of Steven Levenson, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul's heady new musical DEAR EVAN HANSEN began even before its Off-Broadway opening.

As reported by BroadwayWorld, the show's lead producer, Tony-winner Stacey Mindich, was quoted confirming a Broadway transfer while speaking at a Syracuse University graduation ceremony, but no official announcement has been made.

Certainly the excitement of last night's twin honors in New York and Washington D.C. will only increase the possibility that the musical about a teenager's nervous lie that sparks a national movement will be chalking up Tony nominations a year from now.

Arena Stage's pre-Off-Broadway production took D.C.'s Helen Hayes Award honors as Outstanding Musical and for Michael Greif's direction while Second Stage's mounting was awarded Obies for Levenson's book, Pasek and Paul's score and Ben Platt's lead performance.

As is customary in this century, the winners took to social media to celebrate.

DEAR EVAN HANSEN features a book by Steven Levenson, music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, choreography by Danny Mefford, and direction by three-time Tony Award nominee Michael Greif. The company includes Ben Platt as the title character, Evan Hansen, as well as John Dossett as Larry, Laura Dreyfuss as Zoe, Mike Faist as Connor, Rachel Bay Jones as Heidi, Kristolyn Lloydas Alana, Will Roland as Jared, Jennifer Laura Thompson as Cynthia.
