THE ICE CHILD, presented by Factory 499, performs tonight, May 10 to June 3 at the Mead Theatre Lab at Flashpoint (916 G Street, NW). Performances are Thursday – Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 3pm with Pay-What-You-Can performances May 17 & 18 (8pm). An additional Pay-What-You-Can Industry Night performance is scheduled for Monday, May 20 (8pm). Press night is May 19 at 8pm.

Urban legend gets a shot of Edgar Allen Poe and a dash of contemporary horror in Factory 449's world premiere of THE ICE CHILD. Catherine wakes to find herself imprisoned in a coffin size freezer. To discover how she got there – and whether she can talk her way to freedom – she must quickly decide which of her captors to trust. Outside her makeshift prison, a struggle soon arises over Catherine's treatment that will decide the fate of victims and villains alike. This show is told through a mash-up of film, live performance and visual art.

"The Ice Child represents Factory 449's first original, company-created theatre production and a necessary step in the evolution of the collective. Artistic, organizational and financial risks are all part of undertaking this type of innovative programming-but risks worth taking. Factory 449 is one of the few DC arts organizations creating its own work," says Factory 449 Producing Artistic Director, Rick Hammerly.

"This show will really push us to tell a story in a new way," says Hunter Styles, Factory 449 company member and the director of the project. "We are looking to uncover the possibilities that come from giving an incredibly talented group of actors a brand-new script, fold in a huge recorded video component and present the story with unorthodox staging and unusual design elements. It's a show that hits hard, and leaves you haunted afterward."

All tickets $20 available online or at (866) 811-4111.
