After a brief warm up preview in Chicago, the first national tour of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee launches right here in Baltimore!  To celebrate, Baltimore.BroadwayWorld.com and the Hippodrome Theatre have joined to offer all of our loyal readers the chance to win one of FOUR pairs of tickets to the show here in town!

The Prizes:

Two pairs of tickets are for the very first performance on Tuesday, September 19th and two pairs are for the official press opening performance on Wednesday, September 20th.

The Rules:

1. Answer each of the 10 questions below by S-P-E-L-L-I-N-G them!  Each question has to do with the 10 shows playing at the Hippodrome this season.  Correct answers look like T-H-I-S, not this.

2. Email your answers to jameshowardbww@yahoo.com by 12 Noon on Saturday, September 16th.  Include your full name, address, contact information, and age.  (You must be 18 years of age or older to win.)

3. Winners will be selected as follows:  the four contestants with the most correct answers will win.  In the event that there are multiple contestants with the same number of answers correct, winners will be drawn at random from that group.

4. Persons employed by/affiliated with/related to persons from the Hippodrome, BroadwayWorld.com, or the production are ineligible.  Winners of any previous Baltimore.BroadwayWorld.com contest this year are also ineligible.

G-O-O-D  L-U-C-K-!

The Questions:

  1. This show just left Baltimore.  The ushers are still blinded by the spandex and platform boots!  What is the title of this show?

  2. One of the characters in the Spelling Bee has the first name of Leaf.  What is his last name?

  3. Richard Thomas and George Wendt headline the tour of Twelve Angry Men.  What television programs are they MOST famous for starring in?  (BOTH SHOWS = CORRECT ANSWER).

  4. This hit off-Broadway show is about a Christian boy band.  What is the title of this show?

  5. Only one Tony Award was won out of 11 nominations for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.  It was won by this actor, who also appeared on Broadway in another show that is coming to town.  What is his full name and what show did he appear in besides DRS on Broadway that is coming to Baltimore?  (FULL NAME AND SHOW TITLE = CORRECT ANSWER).

  6. "The sun'll come out tomorrow!"  So sings Annie in this beloved musical, returning to Baltimore in 2007.  After the famous "Little Orphan" is adopted, what is her last name?

  7. In Wicked, this witch is named Glinda when she sings "For Good" with Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West.  But when she sings "Popular", her name is what?

  8. What is the FULL name of the movie that Spamalot is "lovingly ripped off" from?

  9. Molly Ringwald may be a surprising choice to play the title role in Sweet Charity, because she is so famous for her movie roles.  But theatre fans everywhere know Molly played this character in Cabaret on Broadway! (FULL CHARACTER NAME = CORRECT ANSWER)

  10. The last show of the season won the Tony Award and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama (among many others).  What is the title of this show?

Note:  Performers listed above are scheduled to appear as of 09/12/2006.  The actor in question 5 will NOT be in the touring production when it arrives in Baltimore.
