Catholic University Brings SISTER ANGELICA To The Stage

By:

The much-acclaimed one-act opera, Sister Angelica (Suor Angelica), will be performed by The Catholic University of America's new Benjamin T. Rome School of Music, Drama, and Art, approaching the 100th anniversary of the work's premiere. The opera, written by Giacomo Puccini, will be directed by the Rome School's Opera Director and Voice Instructor, James Hampton.

The standalone opera focuses on a young nun, Sister Angelica, in a Tuscan convent as she awaits news from her aristocratic family. The sorrowful drama, written in 1918 as part of the trilogy Il Trittico, features themes of grief, humility, and overall redemption. It will be sung in Italian with English supertitles.

Sister Angelica will be performed in Ward Recital Hall, 620 Michigan Ave., N.E., Washington, D.C., on Nov. 8, 9, and 10 at 7:30 p.m., and Nov. 11 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $20 for general admission; $15 for seniors; Catholic University alumni, faculty, and staff; and members of the military; and $10 for students. For more information, visit the production website or call the box office at 202-319-5414.
