Town Hall Theater Presents Premiere of GREEN MOUNTAIN UPSET: THE MOVIE & HICK IN THE 'HOOD, Now thru 3/30

Town Hall Theater will present the premiere of Green Mountain Upset: The Movie today, March 28. Sports writers have called Middlebury Union High School Tigers' 1983 championship win 'the greatest upset in Vermont High School sports history.' The extraordinary journey has been chronicled in a film, including archival footage and present-day interviews. The premiere on Friday includes a reception with the champions, food, & drink. The film will also be shown on Saturday, March 29. Tickets, $30 on 3/28, $10 on 3/29, are available by calling 802-382-9222, at www.townhalltheater.org, or at the box office Monday-Saturday, noon - 5:00pm. Town Hall Theater will also presents Mike Sommers in Hick In The 'Hood on March 30 at 2:00pm. A rosy-cheeked Middlebury, Vermonter bumbles into a notorious West Coast neighborHOOD… and buys a house. Mike Sommers plays all 30 characters in this uniquely funny, autobiographical one-man play, from his father and grandfather to thegreat-grandmother with Parkinson's and her saintly (if criminal) son! The North East Kingdom-based company is touring all over Vermont this winter, funded in part by a grant from the Vermont Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. They're bringing their cutting-edge variety entertainment to Middlebury's Town Hall Theater tonight, February 7 at 7:30 pm.

The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company announces Sarah Hammond and Adam Gwon's String as the winner of its eighth annual New Musical Award. Book writer Hammond and composer/lyricist Gwon describe String as 'a musical fable about the three Fates and a fall.' To rehearse, perform and record selections from the new work, Weston has assembled a cast that features Heidi Blickenstaff in the leading role. Blickenstaff (Broadway's The Addams Family, (title of show)) played the role of Diana in Weston's acclaimed 2013 revival of Next To Normal. The cast of String will perform a free public concert at the Weston Playhouse on Saturday March 1 at 8pm.
Dorset Theatre Festival to Offer Exciting Youth Programs, Spring & Summer 2014

Dorset Theatre Festival is about to kick off its fourth annual Jean E. Miller Young Playwrights Competition, which provides free playwriting instruction to area schools, and invites students to submit their work to be judged by a panel of nationally recognized playwrights. This year, with new underwriting of the educational programming, DTF will offer a cash prize for the winners, as well as a staged reading of the winning plays performed at the Dorset Playhouse and open to the public. Interested educators should contact Ashley Connell (ashley@dorsettheatrefestival.org) to get involved with the program. Submissions will open for student work in the late spring and winners will be announced at the end of the summer. Entries are accepted in middle school (grades 5-8) and high school (grades 9-12) categories.
