Created and performed by the award-winning young choreographer Shion Skye Carter, Residuals () is a captivating solo which draws visual, sonic, and physical influences from Japanese calligraphy. Dynamic brushstrokes inform Carter’s movement as she traverses sheets of translucent paper, evoking an abstracted memory of her Japanese grandparents’ rural home. These memories spark a journey of introspective self-discovery, where the layers of her identity begin to unfurl. The performance also includes a short new solo, Physical Characteristics Of My Shadow, performed by emerging artist Juolin Lee and choreographed by Ziyian Kwan. Presented through The Dance Centre’s Iris Garland Emerging Choreographer Award.
Co-presented with Powell Street Festival.
