Vancouver TheatreSport Presents AVOCADO TOAST
This summer, Vancouver TheatreSports (VTSL) takes an affectionate and comedic look at what makes Vancouver so unique. Starting July 5th and running through to September 1st at The Improv Centre on Granville Island, Avocado Toast - Vancouver Grown, Free-Range Comedy pokes fun at YVR and its stereotypes.
Vancouver is known internationally for its spectacular beauty, friendly citizens, and vibrant multicultural milieu. Beneath the glossy surface lies a complicated and eccentric city ripe for parody. In a series of vignettes, VTSL's quick-witted improvisers lampoon such local stereotypes as our obsession with fitness (Grouse Grind and yoga, anyone?), quirky neighbourhoods (The Drive, Main St., Kits, Gastown), and foodie scene (coffee culture, craft breweries/distilleries, avocado toast) that have earned Vancouver its 'Lotus Land' nickname. Our 'wet coast' winters, burgeoning bike lanes, 'affordable' housing, and hipsters are only a few more entertaining and endless comedic inspirations. As in all VTSL shows, the plot, characters, and action are co-developed with the audience - utilizing their suggestions to drive the action and create on-the-spot, unscripted, theatrically-infused comedy.
With an improv show, no two performances can ever be the same, but all are guaranteed to be hilarious - leaving you with sore sides from laughing so hard. Celebrate Vancouver by joining VTSL this summer for some distinctively Lower Mainland laughs. Avocado Toast is more than a satisfying breakfast - at VTSL, it is a full-meal deal of entertainment.
