Woolwich Works to Host Summer Programme of Community Events and Family Shows
The South East London venue will present Boppin' Bunnies, The Bubble Show, and more.
Woolwich Works has announced an uplifting summer programme of community events, family entertainment, music, dance, craft and culture, offering audiences of all ages the chance to connect through shared experience in one of South East London's most distinctive cultural and entertainment spaces.
Throughout the summer months, the Royal Arsenal venue will host a wide-ranging programme that brings together free regular events, participatory workshops, family shows, music-making, community celebrations and relaxed social gatherings — from singing groups and stitch nights to quizzes, karaoke and interactive theatre for younger audiences.
Woolwich Works Songbirds, delivered in partnership with NYJO (National Youth Jazz Orchestra), continues on Wednesdays from 2pm–4pm, offering adults aged 50+ a free, welcoming opportunity to come together to sing, chat and meet new people. Suitable for complete beginners as well as experienced singers, the group is designed as a fun, inclusive learning environment where community and confidence sit at the heart of the experience.
Wednesday evenings also bring two free weekly social events to the Visitors' Book Café. Stitch Night invites knitters, crocheters, stitchers and hand-sewers to bring along their own projects for an informal evening of making and conversation, while Woolwich Works Games Night offers feel-good board game fun from 6.30pm, with attendees welcome to bring their own games or join others around the table.
Movement and creativity are also central to the summer programme. Luca Silvestrini's Protein continues its Dance Classes for Adults (Spring Term 2026) on Thursday evenings until 25 June, inviting participants of all ages and experience levels to get moving, develop performance skills and explore contemporary dance in a welcoming, social environment. Classes are free for residents of the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
Music remains a major part of the venue's community offer. Come and Sing Woolwich, presented by Coalign, offers free Saturday morning singing workshops for anyone curious about joining a choir or rediscovering their voice. Led by musician Joe Cummings and the Coalign team, the sessions also form part of the development of a community chorus for Displaced, a new opera exploring Arsenal FC's roots in Woolwich and its move to North London.
Families are well-served throughout June and beyond, with Boppin' Bunnies returning on 13 June and 29 August for interactive music shows designed for babies, toddlers and families. The June edition features World Folk musicians, violin, cello and Celtic harp, with percussion instruments for babies, toddlers and adults to play together. On 14 June, The Bubble Show brings magic, storytelling and science to the Fireworks Factory, as the Guinness World Record-holding Highland Joker creates bubble volcanoes, fire tornadoes and a breathtaking display of bubble artistry for ages 3+.
On Saturday 13 June, Woolwich Works joins makers around the world for World Wide Stitch In Public Day, with a free celebration of craft, community and creativity. The day will include a community stitch circle, mini marketplace, yarn swap, panel discussion and a community call-out to help crochet bunting for the venue's summer courtyard. Spilling The Tea with Lydia, Lauren and Nyala (3.30pm) is the perfect way to round off World Wide Stitch in Public Day – and a little more intimate than the afternoon's main events. Lydia Amartey-Williams (Game of Wool), Lauren Tedstone (The Great British Sewing Bee) and Nyala Rowe of Crochet Junction catch up over afternoon tea: think scones, sandwiches, cake and good conversation all centred around the joy of stitching and knitting.
The programme also includes major cultural and community moments. Spirit of Tibet: Dance from the Roof of the World on 5 June offers a rare UK performance from the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts, celebrating Tibetan music, opera, dance and storytelling. There & Here – A Celebration on 20 June, presented by Luca Silvestrini's Protein and the Royal Borough of Greenwich as part of Refugee Week 2026, brings together artist and refugee-led performances, arts and crafts, dance, singing, live music and a communal meal.
Pride is celebrated on Saturday 27 June with Proud Together, a free family-friendly courtyard party for all, presented by LGBTQ+ Greenwich and hosted by Candy Heals, the UK's only Hungarian drag queen. Later that evening, Pulling Strings Promotions brings Britpop Elite Festival to the Fireworks Factory, offering a full-throttle celebration of ‘90s nostalgia. Oasiz, Blur2 and Pulp'd will be taking to the stage and revisiting Cool Britannia's heyday.
Across the season, Woolwich Works also offers regular Sunday pub quiz nights with Inquizition, free guided heritage tours of its historic Royal Arsenal buildings every Sunday, its regular Friday Karaoke at the Works in the Visitors' Book Café, and NYJO Under 18s sessions for young musicians aged 11–18 on Saturdays throughout the summer.
Nick Williams, Director of Woolwich Works, commented: “Summer at Woolwich Works gives people the chance to gather for fun. Whether it's for music, dance, circus, family performances or simply sharing a table at quiz or games night, the venue is full of life. Open for all ages, we are offering the opportunity to discover something new and have a great time.”
