UK Premiere of OUTSIDE MULLINGAR Sets Cast

The Ustinov Studio, Bath has announced the cast for the second production in its spring 2015 season, the UK premiere of John Patrick Shanley's bittersweet romantic comedy OUTSIDE MULLINGAR, directed by Sam Yates, from 16th April - 16th May.

Transport yourself to rural Ireland. It's 2008 and the Reillys and the Muldoons are caught up in a bizarre feud over a contested strip of land that separates their two farms. When his father threatens to disinherit him, Anthony Reilly discovers that the beautiful and tenacious Aoife Muldoon holds the key to his future. So why is he so determined not to take it? Heartbreaking, funny and deeply moving, this is the journey of two obstinate individuals towards unity.

The cast includes James Hayes (Tony Reilly), Deidre O'Kane (Rosemary Muldoon), Owen McDonnell (Anthony Reilly) and Carol Macready (Aoife Muldoon).

James' credits include Antony and Cleopatra (The Globe); The Captain of Kopenick (The National Theatre); All That Fall (The Arts Theatre/ Jermyn Street Theatre/ 59e59 Street Theatre, New York); Philadelphia, Here I Come (Donmar Warehouse). Notably, James was part of the original 1963 company at the National Theatre. James' television credits include Nemesis (Kudos Film and TV); The Cafe (Sky1); The Bill (Fremantle/ITV); Moving Wallpaper (Kudos/ITV1).

Deidre is one of Ireland's best-known stand-up comedians, and has released two DVDs of her performances. She hosted and co-wrote The Lounge (RTE/BBC). Her theatre credits include Juno and the Paycock (The Abbey Theatre); The Black Pig's Dyke (Druid Theatre); Present Laughter (Gate Theatre); Dandelions, Greener (Gaiety Theatre) and the one-woman show My Brilliant Divorce (Druid). Deidre stars in Moone Boy (Sky1) which is now in its third series. Her television credits include Paths to Freedom, The Clinic, Fergus' Wedding (RTE). Her film credits include the BAFTA winning Festival (Channel 4).

Owen's theatre credits include The Separation (Theatre 503); Translations (Ouroboros); Wunderkind (Calipo Theatre and Pleasance King Dome); Cruel and Tender (Hatch Theatre); The Lieutenant of Inishmore (Cork Millennium/Galway co-production); Hitchcock Blonde (Royal Court); Les Liasons Dangereuses (Liverpool Playhouse). Owen has appeared in the lead role of Jack in all four seasons of Touchpaper TV's Single Handed (RTE/ITV). Other television credits include: Silent Witness (BBC); Mount Pleasant (Tiger Aspect / Sky); The Galway Races (Great Western Films for TG4); Spooks (Kudos/BBC).

Carol's theatre credits include The Mandate, Tales from the Vienna Woods, Edmond, The Wind in the Willows (National Theatre); Measure for Measure, Roberto Zucco, Bartholomew Fair, Jubilee, Love in a Wood (Royal Shakespeare Company) and Orpheus Descending (The Sir Peter Hall Company, Haymarket Theatre). Most recently, she has appeared in In the Club (Hampstead); Eden End, Ladies in Lavender (Northampton/ national tour) and Sunburst (the Grange Hotel, Holborn/ Langham Hotel). Her television appearances include Heartbeat, Poirot: Cat Amongst the Pigeons (ITV Productions) and Doc Martin (Buffalo Pictures).

John Patrick Shanley's bittersweet romantic comedy is filled with exquisite language, and has been acclaimed as his finest work since Doubt, the winner of both the Tony Award and the Pulitzer Prize in 2005. The Bronx-born author won an Academy Award for his screenplay of Moonstruck and also wrote the screenplay for the film Joe Versus the Volcano. NBC New York described Outside Mullingar as "an easy play to adore", whilst Variety deemed it "Breathtaking... so tenderly written that it would melt a stone".

Outside Mullingar is directed by Sam Yates, whose work includes directing Jane Horrocks in East is East in the West End; Billy Liar at Manchester's Royal Exchange; Ruth Wilson in The El Train at Hoxton Hall and J B Priestley's Cornelius which was nominated for four Off West End Awards and transferred to New York in 2013, receiving Critic's Pick in the New York Times.
