Theatre Royal Winchester Commemorates the Centenary of the End of the First World War With Armistice Event

On Sunday 11 November Michael Pennington, Pamela Miles and John Miller visit Theatre Royal Winchester for The Armistice Centenary Recalled.

Exactly a hundred years to the day after the Armistice marking the end of the First World War, this dramatic recital draws on the contemporary writings in poetry and prose to recreate the moods and passions of those involved at the time.

Authors include poets Rupert Brooke, Siegfried Sassoon and Vera Brittain, and Winston Churchill who witnessed so many aspects of the conflict from both the military and political viewpoints. These eyewitness stories will be brought to life by the distinguished actors Michael Pennington and Pamela Miles, together with producer John Miller.

The evening has been programmed as part of Theatre Royal Winchester's First World War commemorations which began with Not About Heroes and A Pure Woman in October, and also includes the upcoming Michael Morpurgo's Private Peaceful.

Private Peaceful tells the story of a young soldier awaiting the firing squad at dawn, reliving his life from childhood to adulthood. Presented by Scamp Theatre and directed by Simon Reade, the critically-acclaimed production plays at the Winchester venue direct from London's West End, Tuesday 13th to Saturday 17th November.

The Armistice Centenary Recalled with Michael Pennington, Pamela Miles and John Miller is at Theatre Royal Winchester on Sunday 28 October at 2.30pm. Tickets are available online at theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk and from the Box Office on 01962 840 440.
