The Rose Theatre presents Chaucer's THE CANTERBURY TALES, 5/25 - 29

By:

Multi award-winning producers Northern Broadsides return to the Rose Theatre with Geoffrey Chaucer's THE CANTERBURY TALES from May 25th to the 29th. This invigorating and hilarious play, adapted by Olivier Award winning Mike Poulton and directed by Conrad Nelson, will see 16 actors play over 80 characters across 10 different stories using live music, singing, puppetry and farce.

The classic, unfinished story starts at the Tabard Inn in London, sometime in the fourteenth century where a motley group of individuals - Knight, Cook, Miller, Squire, Wife and more - gather for their pilgrimage to Canterbury Cathedral. On the way, they regale each other with their colourful tales to pass the time of day, and thus unfolds one of the greatest collections of stories ever told.

The performance will be approximately 3 hours long including an interval. Suitable for ages 12+ with Parental Guidance recommended. Tickets are £7 - £29.50. Evening shows are every day at 7:30 pm with matinee at 2:30 pm on Thursday and Saturday.  Tickets can be purchase at the theatre's website: link

Before THE CANTERBURY TALES opens at the Rose, GUESS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU runs from May 19th to the 23rd. The show is written and directed by David Wood OBE. Based off of Sam McBratney and Anita Jeram's classic by the same name, the show is about Little Nutbrown Hare and Big Nutbrown Hare's journey through the seasons.

Tickets are £12 at all performances with £10 for deaf and disabled patrons. All performances are matinees with times on Wednesday at 3:30 PM; Thursday and Fri at 11 AM and 1:30 PM; and Saturday and Sunday at 11 AM, 1:30 PM and 3:30 PM. Bentalls, Kingston are hosting a tea party following the May 20th 1:30pm performance in Centre View Restaurant on the Third Floor in Bentalls, Kingston. There will be a free cupcake and juice for children with their Rose Theatre ticket. Tickets can be purchase at the theatre's website: link

The Rose Theatre, Kingston is an 900 seat venue in the centre of Kingston Upon Thames. The design of the auditorium took its inspiration from the Elizabethan Rose Theatre, situated on London's Bankside and has the same lozenge shaped stage, semi-circular seating configuration and pit area, where audiences can sit on cushions to watch performances. The Rose opened in January 2008, since when it has presented a number of visiting productions plus a host of one nights shows, including a regular residency from the Comedy Store. It also provides a major cultural centre for the local community and is developing a programme of education work centered on the Spoken Word.
