TWELFTH NIGHT Plays Morden Hall and Brockwell Park, Now thru July 14

By:

Attic Theatre Company and Sixteenfeet Productions are set to bring a little sunshine to South London this summer, as they join forces to present TWELFTH NIGHT or What You Will in two magical outdoor locations. Morden Hall Park and Brockwell Park will by turns host this exciting new staging of Shakespeare's bittersweet comedy, between today, 27th June and 14th July.

The audience will be transported to a Mediterranean island in the 1960s, where the lovesick Duke Orsino pines for the beautiful Countess Olivia. A young woman named Viola is shipwrecked on the island; alone and vulnerable, she disguises herself as a boy, and a complex love-triangle emerges. Add to this a raucous trio led by Sir Toby Belch, and we have an explosive mix of love, mistaken identity and riotous disorder.

Director Jenny Lee, whose past credits include 1936 (Sadler's Wells) and sell-out open air productions of Hamlet and A Midsummer Night's Dream says:
"Shakespeare is timeless and Twelfth Night or What You Will is one of his best-loved plays, at once funny, tender and cruel. Here we've pinned him down to the heyday of the last century making the production fun, accessible and contemporary, while remaining true to the play. Music will be woven into the action, played live by the cast. We have two idyllic venues lined up, that will provide the perfect backdrop. The audience is in for a treat."

A series of workshops to accompany Twelfth Night is available to schools. The production begins its run on 27th June in Morden Hall Park, moving to Brockwell Park on 3rd July. Limited seating will be available at both venues but audiences are encouraged to bring cushions and blankets to ensure their own comfort. A range of picnic hampers will be available to pre-order through the box office.
