The short list has been announced for King's Head Theatre's inaugural Adrian Pagan Playwright Award. The winner will receive £2000 and be produced professionally by the King's Head at our new writing space The Hope Theatre in a one-month season in May 2014.

The shortlist judging panel includes David Lan (Artistic Director, Young Vic), Mark Ravenhill (Playwright), Mike Bradwell (Director), Nina Steiger (Associate Director, Soho Theatre) and Julia Tyrrell (Literary Agent).

The shortlisted plays and playwrights are:

  1. Kitchen Sinking by Gina Gough
  2. Dead Party Animals by Thomas Pickles
  3. Dissolution by Isobel Middleton
  4. My Darling Wife by Isaac Ssebandeke
  5. The Visitor by Remi Rachuba

The winner will be announced on Monday 2nd December.

Adrian Pagan was a stage manager turned playwright and the new award will be open to theatre professionals who do not describe themselves as playwrights such as actors, directors, designers, producers and ushers. Pagan won the Verity Bargate Award in 1996 and his play The Backroom was produced at the Bush Theatre in 1999 and later revived by the c*ckTavern Theatre in 2009.

The Hope Theatre is the King's Head new writing space. Sandpits Avenue & League of St George are currently playing at the recently opened new writing space until November 30.
