SESTERCENTENNIAL to Open at Bread & Roses Theatre
Arif Silverman writes, directs, and performs the hour-long production, with lighting design by Chiara Bowker.
SESTERCENTENNIAL, written and performed by Arif Silverman, wrestles with America's identity on the eve of its 250th birthday. The play will be performed at The Bread & Roses Theatre on Friday, July 3rd at 7:00pm.
SESTERCENTENNIAL is a new hour long solo play that contemplates the inescapable role race plays in American politics and social life.
You are Hamza Beshara, a conservative Bangladeshi American. You're hosting an indoor barbecue for your (white) best friends on July 4, 2026 - America's 250th Birthday. Amidst frantic preparations, a looming sense of anxiety festers within you. Something is clearly amiss, forcing you to reflect on your relationships to your culture and friends, and the divisions and contradictions, longstanding and new, that exist between them and within yourself.
