Royal Ballet Will Present World Premiere THE WEATHERING by Kyle Abraham

Dance Today brings three of the world's most exciting choreographers together in an extraordinary showcase of modern ballet. This mixed programme of one act ballets includes the world premiere of The Weathering, a new work by Kyle Abraham. This new production is set to a score of existing and new music by Ryan Lott, and features costume designs by Karen Young and lighting design by Dan Scully. Abraham created his first work for The Royal Ballet, Optional Family: A Divertissement, in May 2021; The Weathering is his second work for the Company.

As well as creating works for his own dance company A.I.M, Abraham has made creations for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and New York City Ballet and has choreographed solos for American Ballet Theatre Principals Misty Copeland and Calvin Royal III. In November 2020 he also choregraphed Beyonce's British Vogue cover shoot.

The programme also features Crystal Pite's moving and melancholic Solo Echo. Love, loss and acceptance are the heart of this work, which is inspired by Mark Strand's poem Lines for Winter and is set to Brahms's sonatas for cello and piano.

Royal Ballet Artistic Associate Christopher Wheeldon's energetic DGV: Dans à Grande Vitese was created for The Royal Ballet in 2006 and was last performed by the Company in 2014. Set to Michael Nyman's MGV (Musique à Grande Vitesse), which was composed to commemorate the French highspeed train TGV (Train à Grand Vitesse), the ballet is a mesmersing blend of movement and metaphor. Casting includes Marianela Nuňez, Mayara Magri and Matthew Ball.
