The Rose is delighted to have two leading companies offering exciting participatory events for young people with learning difficulties, this summer.

On Monday 27 June 12 local young people will join Richard Stilgoe, founder of
The Orpheus Centre, for an afternoon of laughter and fun at a song-writing workshop. As lyricist behind hit musicals Cats and Phantom of the Opera, Richard will use his way with wit and words to bring out the musical poet in everyone. There will be a public performance of their work at 6.30pm in the Rose auditorium followed by a short talk by Richard Stilgoe.

The Orpheus Centre promotes personal development through the performing arts. Working intensely with a small group, students take on the challenge of writing and composing one song, in one afternoon. The session culminates in all the students performing the songs, either individually or as a group. Participants are required to bring their own access support. As a guideline the session is aimed at young people aged 11 to 25. If you are interested in participating, please contact Rachel Coltman on 0208 546 6983 or e-mail rachelc@rosetheatrekingston.org

Oily Cart is one of the most critically acclaimed companies creating theatre for young people with multiple learning difficulties. They make a hugely positive difference to the lives of young people and their families, who can be excluded from cultural activity. Interactive and innovative, a small group of 9-14 year olds will enjoy a unique sensory experience that reflects his or her interests and ways of communication.

This event is sponsored by Copycare, Nice Biscuits, Mailbird and TCS Media.
