The art of burlesque has become a huge trend in entertainment, providing fashion with the 'Vintage' look, and inspiring a major Hollywood movie. It's now being brought back to its traditional European roots - of British Music hall and continental Cabaret - in a new musical touring the UK this summer. Miss Nightingale - the burlesque musical tells a gripping story of sex, scandal and showbiz in war-torn 1940s London. It is at London's Leicester Square Theatre from Tue 2 - Sun 7 July. The show stars British-born international burlesque performer, Amber Topaz.

Northern songbird Maggie Brown has moved to London in search of fame. She auditions at every cabaret bar, with her songwriter George, but nobody wants their act. Things aren't much better with her boyfriend Tom. Meanwhile, George has problems of his own fighting to get by as a Jewish refugee in the East End.

Everything changes when Maggie and George are picked up by wealthy nightclub owner Sir Frank. Soon 'Miss Nightingale' explodes onto the stage - shocking society with her outrageous outfits and saucy songs. She takes the West End by storm. But the backstage secret romance between the two men threatens to prove far more devastating than the Blitz.

Miss Nightingale - the burlesque musical brings the vintage glamour, wartime spirit and saucy sound of the 40s thrillingly to life.

The musical was first staged in an abridged form with a cast of three in 2011 at The Lowry, Salford Quays and King's Head Theatre, London. It returns in a new full-length version, featuring 20 original songs performed by a cast of eight actor-musicians. It is directed byPeter Rowe and designed by Carla Goodman. The cast includes: Amber Topaz, Ilan Goodman, Tomm Coles, Alex Tomkins, andAdam Langstaff. There is a special guest performance from West End veteran, Henry Goodman as the voice of the BBC Wartime Newsreader.

Amber Topaz started her career in West End musicals (The Canterville Ghost and Les Miserables), film and TV before razzle-dazzling her way to international burlesque stardom. She has performed her acclaimed act for fashion icons, rock royalty, crowned heads, and (allegedly) serving Coalition Government Ministers.

Ilan Goodman has appeared in Danton's Death (National Theatre), Austentatious (Landor) and alongside Martin Sheen in The Echelon Conspiracy (film). He recently finished filming alongside Toni Collette, Pierce Brosnan and Naomi Watts in the film, Diana.

Tomm Coles has appeared in Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead (Chichester & Theatre Royal Haymarket), Sunset Boulevard (Comedy Theatre & Watermill), Fiddler on the Roof (Savoy & Crucible), Mack and Mabel (West End & Watermill), and has just finished filming The Muppets...Again!

Matthew Bugg is a composer specialising in music for theatre and his work has been heard across the UK and in the West End. Productions includes: Volcano, Barefoot in the Park, Quartet, Some Like it Hotter, The Secret of Sherlock Holmes, Polygraph, The Father, League of Youth , Three Men in a Boat, and The Handyman. Miss Nightingale - the burlesque musical is Matthew's first piece as both composer and writer.
