The Asylum is back. Kneehigh Theatre Company's nomadic theatre space returns to Cornwall, as Artistic Director Emma Rice (The Red Shoes, Brief Encounter) directs two brand new Kneehigh shows - The Wild Bride and Midnight's Pumpkin.
Following its inaugural season last Summer, the Asylum will return to Tywarnhayle Farm, near Blackwater in the heart of Cornwall from July 23rd - August 28th.
Emma Rice will unite a team of internationally renowned Cornish talent talent including poet Anna Murphy (The Red Shoes), director and designer
Bill Mitchell (The Passion) and writer Carl Grose (Blast!)
Midnight's Pumpkin tells one of the greatest stories of all time. Inspired by the story of Cinderella, this night of dancing, story-telling and celebration will all end in a right royal knees-up in a field, for a tipsy, tingling night of romance and magic.
Plus, Kneehigh will premiere its new touring show The Wild Bride. This epic and poetic wondertale is classic Kneehigh. Charting a life from child to adult, you can expect instinctive storytelling, devilish humour and a heady mix of live blues music. A grown up romance for adults and brave children alike.
The Wild Bride will be designed by Kneehigh's former Artistic Director
Bill Mitchell, co-director of
National Theatre Wales'The Passion with
Michael Sheen.
There will also be music, children's shows, laughter, dancing, and good food and drink - all locally sourced.
Emma Rice is the Joint Artistic Director of Kneehigh Theatre. For Kneehigh, She has directed:The Red Shoes (2002 Theatrical Management Association [TMA] Theatre Award for Best Director), The Wooden Frock (2004 TMA Theatre Award nomination for Best Touring Production), The Bacchae (2005 TMA Theatre Award for Best Touring Production), Tristan & Yseult (2006 TMA Theatre Award nomination for Best Touring Production), Cymbeline (in association with the
