KEVIN!!!!! To Be Presented By Recent Cutbacks

In an inventively accurate live puppet parody of the quintessential 90s classic about leaving your kid alone at home, a five-person ensemble works in tandem to condense the full film into a high-energy hour of theatrical ingenuity.

KEVIN!!!!! integrates green-screen projections and live-feed footage with intricate miniature sets and varying scales of puppetry – crafted from recycled materials – to manipulate cinematic perspective in real time. Comprising four actors and a live Foley artist, the production utilises the entire theatre space as the McCallister house, moving through the audience to capture the action. Featuring a score of both live and recorded a cappella and choreographed physical theatre, the New York-based company, creators of acclaimed Fringe hits Hold on to Your Butts and Fly, You Fools!, delivers a performance that is both a technical feat of homemade craft and a nostalgic celebration of a festive classic.

KEVIN!!!!!  will be part of Recent Cutbacks’ triple bill feature at Pleasance this August along with return of last year’s sell out Fly, You Fools!, a live, shot-for-shot parody of the most epic fantasy film of all time. There will also be a limited three day run of the acclaimed Hold on to Your Butts (Aug 12, 19, 26 at 20:30), a shot-for-shot parody of the greatest dinosaur film of all time, which is returning to the Fringe after a sell-out run in two consecutive years.

Director and co-founder of Recent Cutbacks Kristin McCarthy Parker said, “We can't wait for KEVIN!!!!! to have its UK premiere at Fringe this summer. In making this show – Recent Cutbacks' third -- we wanted to do something wildly different than anything we'd done before, particularly with puppetry and live projections. But for as complex and technical asKEVIN!!!!! is, it still incorporates our signature style: joyful and hilarious, showcasing a supremely talented cast making magic together.”

The show will feature performers Nick Abeel, Brendan Dalton, Rosa Palmeri, Natalie Rich and Foley Richard Sears.

Kristin McCarthy Parker (director, producer, co-founder of Recent Cutbacks) is a New York-based director and producer whose work has been seen across the US, UK, and Australia. Kristin directed the Off-Broadway hit  Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic and its live capture (available on Amazon and iTunes).  Assistantships include Michael Greif (Far From Heaven), Trip Cullman (Choir Boy), and Wendy C. Goldberg (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?). She is also a proud company member of Broken Box Mime. This is her fourth time at the Fringe, most recently with Recent Cutbacks in 2025.

Recent Cutbacks is a creative ensemble founded in 2014. They are best known for their live movie parodies that fuse humour, nostalgia, and lo-fi spectacle. Their projects invite audiences to see the world with a newfound exuberance and remind us of why we fell in love with movies, theatre, and storytelling in the first place. The company made their Edinburgh debut in 2024 with Hold on to Your Butts which was held to high acclaim, transferring to London in 2024 ahead of a 2025 UK tour and subsequent off-Broadway debut. They then returned to Edinburgh in 2025 with the sell-out world premiere of Fly, You Fools. Other shows include Next Day Thrones, There is No Spoon and the Audible Original Master Lecture Series.

Performances will take place August 5-31 (not 13 & 24) at Pleasance Courtyard, 60 Pleasance, Edinburgh. Tickets can be purchased on the Pleasance website.
