Jermyn Street Theatre Closes BLACK BREAD & CUCUMBER, 10/23
Jermyn Street Theatre bring back BLACK BREAD & CUCUMBER in a strictly limited season from October 5th to the 23rd after a nine year absence. The play is presented to celebrate Anton Chekhov's 150 birthday as Caroline Blakiston does this acclaimed one-woman show about how she made history as the first British actress to play Chekhov in Russia, in Russian.
Showtimes are evening performances from Tuesday to Saturday at 7:30 and matinee performances on Saturday and Sunday at 3:30. Tickets are £18.00 (£14.00 concessions).
Premiered in 1997 and staged again in 2001, BLACK BREAD & CUCUMBER was written by Caroline Blakiston during 1992-1993, following her unique experience playing Charlotta in The Cherry
Orchard in Russian. First in 1991 at the Dramatichesky Teatr in Taganrog - the town on the Sea of Azov in southern Russia where Anton Chekov was born. Then, in 1992 at the Moscow Art Theatre in the long-running production by Oleg Yefremov. In December 1994 she won the Golden Globe Award, which is presented at Moscow each year to a foreigner who has made a special contribution to Russian theatre.
Caroline Blakiston is an award-winning actress whose recent West?End appearances include Trevor Nunn's production of My Fair?Lady and We Happy?Few, and Adrian?Noble's production of A?Woman of No?Importance. She was a founder member of the Actors Company and has played two seasons with the Royal Shakespeare Company. Caroline's TV?appearances include The Mallens, The Forsyte Saga, Brass, As Time Goes By, Children of the New Forest, The?Line of Beauty, Heartbeat and Midsomer Murders. Film credits include The Magic?Christian, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Yanks, The Fourth Protocol and Return of the Jedi.
