Eleanor Lang to Be the New Executive Director of Theatre Royal Stratford East

Theatre Royal Stratford East is pleased to announce that Eleanor Lang has been appointed Executive Director from 1st October. Eleanor joins Theatre Royal Stratford East from Cheek by Jowl, where she is currently Executive Director, at the start of new Artistic Director Nadia Fall's inaugural season and will be working closely with Nadia on the overall strategic leadership of the theatre.

Eleanor Lang is currently the Executive Director of Cheek by Jowl. Previously she was the Executive Director of Free Word, an international centre for literature, literacy and free speech. Prior to Free Word she was General Manager at the both the Bush Theatre and at Y Touring Theatre Company. Eleanor has also worked at Battersea Arts Centre, The Donmar Warehouse and as a freelance producer. She is currently a Trustee of Tonic Theatre and Marshall's Charity.

Artistic Director Nadia Fall said: "I am absolutely thrilled that Eleanor Lang will be joining us at Stratford East. Eleanor's experience of leading creative and progressive arts organisations will be a brilliant asset to the theatre as we move forward into an exciting future. I am really looking forward to working with her to lead the team at Stratford East."

Chair of the Board, RT Hon Dame Margaret Hodge MBE said "Eleanor's passion for the ethos and values of Theatre Royal Stratford East, together with her impressive credentials as a leader in the arts, makes her an excellent choice for Executive Director. With Artistic Director Nadia Fall they will make a formidable team to steer this historic theatre into the future."

Nadia Fall's dynamic first season, opening with Lope De Vega's The Village reimagined by April De Angelis on 13 September, presents a diverse range of bold and inspiring stories, engaging the theatre's local community in the heart of East London as well as audiences across the capital.

Since 1884, Theatre Royal Stratford, the historic producing house in the heart of London's East End has spearheaded diverse work, and championed often marginalised stories on its stage. Many leading actors, writers and directors have been part of the Theatre Royal Stratford East family including Meera Syal, Barbara Windsor, Don Warrington, Indhu Rubasingham, Tanika Gupta, Roy Williams and Cynthia Erivo to name but a few. Now with Artistic Director Nadia Fall at the helm, Theatre Royal Stratford East will deliver a bold programme of reimagined classics, timely revivals and ground-breaking new work.
