EIGENGRAU to Receive Revival at Waterloo East Theatre

Penelope Skinner's Eigengrauis to be revived at Waterloo East Theatre this September.

The play documents the lives of four twenty-somethings as they struggle to find a sense of identity through confusion and isolation in a hectic urban world. Often brilliantly funny, this character-driven tragicomedy centres on relationships - from friendships to messy romantic entanglements - as it casts an unflinching gaze on the contradictions of being a woman today.

In the wake of the UK government's recent launch of its cross-party campaign against loneliness, Skinner's punchy four-hander is now more relevant than ever. It looks at how in a world full of incidental connections, it can be difficult to find what we're looking for, and at the isolation and panic that can lead to uncomfortable choices. With loneliness now recognised as one of the most pressing social issues of today, and research revealing a prevalence amongst younger generations, Eigengrau could return to London at no better time.

Director Georgie Staight says,"I feel Skinner's text and the characters within it still ring so truthful nine years on. It engages audience with biting humour and isn't scared to confront modern hypocrisies head on. We're hoping to present an interpretation of the play that a young millennial, perhaps feeling lost or overwhelmed at this stage in their life can relate to."

The production boasts some of London's most impressive young creativesbehind it. Heading up the creative process is established young director Georgie Staight, whose recent directing credits include x4 time OffWestEnd Nominated Chutney(Bunker Theatre); D-Day-75(Watermill Theatre); Roosting(Park Theatre); Into the Numbers(Finborough Theatre); Dubailand (Finborough Theatre); Flood (Tristan Bates Theatre) and White Light (Arcola Theatre).
