Dark Comedy A PERFECT DISH to be Presented at Peckham Fringe 2026
Writer Chen Xu and director Tara Jamora Oppen blend puppetry and dark comedy in the 60-minute show.
Written by Chen Xu and directed by Tara Jamora Oppen, this brand new play premieres at Theatre Peckham as part of Peckham Fringe on 4-5 June 2026.
A rising chef rehearses the story behind the dish that made him famous. But beside the boiling pot, the dish begins to speak back. Blending dark comedy, puppetry and sensory storytelling, A Perfect Dish interrogates memory, narrative, and the quiet violence hidden inside everyday rituals.
'In a time of fragmentation and emotional disconnection, I want to question how we compartmentalise empathy', says playwright Chen Xu.
Supported by Southbank Centre and Counterpoints Arts, A Perfect Dish was previously selected for the About Us! Artist Scratch Showcase in May 2026. A staged reading will also be presented at Brixton House as part of Housemates Festival in September.
Performances will run from June 4-5, 2026 at 8 PM at Theatre Peckham's Studio 1, located at 221 Havil Street in London. The production runs 60 minutes. Tickets start at £7.50. For more information, call the box office at 020 7708 5401.
