Legendary American composer Leonard Bernstein's (West Side Story) award-winning musical comedy WONDERFUL TOWN comes to the Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield, from today 1 – Saturday 5 May, as part of a major national tour.

Directed by the Artistic Director of The Royal Exchange Theatre, Braham Murray, and starring Connie Fisher (The Sound of Music, How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?), double Olivier Award-nominee Michael Xavier (Love Story, The Phantom of the Opera) and Lucy van Gasse (Love Never Dies), Wonderful Town recreates the bright lights of 1930s New York City, with spectacular sets, dazzling choreography and a company of over 40 actors, dancers and a 17 piece live orchestra.

Connie plays aspiring writer Ruth Sherwood who arrives in New York City with her beautiful younger sister Eileen. Bursting with dreams of riches and romance, the indomitable pair meet an array of colourful characters in their search for success, causing chaos and delight at every turn.

Wonderful Town first premiered in New York in 1953 where it won five Tony Awards including Best Musical. The 2003 revival also won further Tony and Drama Desk Awards. Wonderful Town was last performed in London's West End in 1986.

Tickets can be purchased from Sheffield Theatres' Box Office in-person, by phone on 0114 249 6000 or online at sheffieldtheatres.co.uk and are priced from £22.50 - £39.50, with discounts available.
