Brighton Fringe Begins Today, May 5!
Under the new stewardship of managing director Julian Caddy, Brighton Fringe will host a panoply of cultural events from theatre to visual art, from dance to comedy, from music to the biggest street festival yet and a host of stunning outdoor events across the city.
Brighton Fringe is set in a city with a unique heritage that has set the pace, diversity, creativity and innovative thinking in locally, nationally and beyond. In May every hall, room above a pub and open space join the already numerous Brighton theatres to become places to see a performance or view visual art and added to these are some more off-beat venues such as beach huts, shop windows and the great outdoors. The renowned Fringe City, Brighton’s biggest Street festival will be returning and over the next few weeks there will be a series of announcements of new initiatives that will make 2012 a year to remember
Last year’s Brighton Fringe brought in 625 events of which 125 were free, over 3,000 separate performances across 180 venues and sold 100,000 tickets, making it the third largest open access festival in the world and the biggest in England. This year is set to be even bigger and preceding the London Olympics and the Diamond Jubilee, it promises to attract the eyes of the world.
Brighton Fringe will run from May 5th through the 27th.
