By:

Booking for The Society of London Theatre's annual season of Theatreland Walking Tours is now open. Join London Blue Badge Guide Diane Burstein on the classic History of Theatreland Walking Tour and, new for 2012, the Haunted Theatreland Walking Tour.

From October to December follow Diane Burstein on the brand new Haunted Theatreland tour and "hear tales of betrayal, bereavement and bloody murder on the cobbled streets and gas-lit back alleys between Covent Garden and St. James.

"This atmospheric journey through the darker side of Theatreland's history will be punctuated with unsettling stories of a ghostly clown, a phantom prompter, spooky superstitions and the eerie Man in Grey.

"The popular History of Theatreland tour returns from April 2012 with a new route that focuses on the vibrant heart of the West End entertainment district, exploring parts of Soho, Shaftesbury Avenue and Piccadilly.

"Blue Badge Guide Diane Burstein will peel away the historical layers of once familiar London sites to uncover the secrets of Theatreland's past.

"Delve into the backstreets to discover the home of a 17th Century playwright, a club with a membership comprising of numerous theatrical celebrities and a theatre for new writing, as well as the premises of the theatrical costumier who unwittingly abetted a murderer's attempted escape.

"Admire the architecture of some of the finest Victorian theatres and learn about the illustrious and eccentric personalities that have inhabited them over the centuries."

The Haunted Theatreland tours will take place on the following Sundays, leaving at 6pm from a Central London location : 28 October, 11 November, 25 November and 2 December. The 25 November tour will be British Sign Language interpreted.

The History of Theatreland tours will take place on the following Sundays, leaving at 2:30pm from a Central London location: 8 April, 10 June, 24 June, 8 July, 26 August, 16 September. The 24 June tour will be British Sign Language interpreted.
