“A woman’s weapon is her tongue.”
A group of talented acting students from Toronto Film School will bring their production of Joanna Laurens’ The Three Birds – an adaptation of a Greek myth – to the stage at the Papermill Theatre this month.
Directed by Tanya Rintoul, the 75-minute play explores the extremes of love as two Athenian sisters are separated by a man who marries one, but desires the other.
“In our play we are confronted with the power of breaking silence and ending cycles of harm. We see this in our present-day society whenever someone is brave enough to publicly tell the truth against power,” said Rintoul.
“This act is not without consequence but is in service to the greater good and a better future. In experiencing this story, we ask ourselves: How are each of us contributing to our own legacy? To a shared legacy? How do we protect the future?”
The Three Birds will take to the stage at the Papermill Theatre for a three-performance run on September 18, 20 and 21 as follows:
- Wednesday, September 18 at 9 p.m.
- Friday, September 20 at 7 p.m.
- Saturday, September 21 at 3 p.m.
The Papermill Theatre is located at Todmorden Mills, 67 Pottery Rd. Tickets are free and available at the door.
