The Theatre Centre presents its annual Comedy is Art festival lineup, with five nights of can’t miss comedy and good vibes running from October 24 to 28. Curated by liza paul - comedian, storyteller, and Theatre Centre Associate Artistic Director - the festival features some of the best comedians in the game from across Toronto and beyond. This wildly talented bunch of unique comedic voices will deliver a week of non-stop jokes: there’s stand-up, there’s music, there’s improv, there’s sketch – there’s every flavour imaginable, all on one stage for one week only. Comedy is Art returns for a third year, showcasing some of the best comedians in the city and sending a clear message: comedy is an art form that should be taken seriously.
The Theatre Centre welcomed audiences, artists and neighbours to the venue for a community meal celebrating its 22/23 programming year. In addition to announcing works on offer throughout the year — Rimah Jabr's Broken Shapes, Sea Sick by Alanna Mitchell, the third edition of Comedy is Art, and Ian Kamau's Loss — artist-podcaster Falen Johnson and artist Lorena Torres Loaiza were presented with the 2022 Patrick Conner Award and Ticket respectively.
MASHUP PON DI ROAD by Bahia Watson is an outdoor, bashment circus variety show-on a big truck. Punk in spirit, island in vibe and vaudeville in staging, this joyful rebellion will hit Toronto streets this summer for its world premiere.
ITALIAN MIME SUICIDE, in a new production by Bad New Days playing at The Theatre Centre, is both more tongue-in-cheek and more serious than its name suggests. The show, written by Adam Paolozza and directed by Paolozza and Kari Pederson, was inspired by the 2003 suicide of an Italian mime who felt that his craft was no longer respected.
Why Not Theatre has announced RISER Toronto will return with three in person productions April 1-May 8, 2022 at The Theatre Centre, BMO Incubator, followed by two online presentations throughout 2022.
Today, Crow's Theatre Artistic Director Chris Abraham and Executive Director Sherrie Johnson announced the casts for two Crow's Theatre Productions this season that include Kristen Johnson, Ahmed Moneka, Ali Kazmi, Craig Lauzon, and Eric Peterson.

The Theatre Centre announces COMEDY IS ART, a new Festival in support of comedy and comedians. Celebrating comedy as a recognized art form, COMEDY IS ART takes place from October 1 - 5, 2019 at The Theatre Centre (1115 Queen Street West). The Festival launches on Tuesday October 1 at 7:00PM with a special announcement from The Theatre Centre followed by a performance by TallBoyz.
