Young People's Theatre Presents Indigenous Dance-Drama Salmon Girl
By: Julie Musbach

Young People's Theatre (YPT) is thrilled to present Salmon Girl, a beautiful story about our relationship to the natural world told through theatre, dance, music and puppetry. This visually stunning work offers an Indigenous view of how we share the world with all living things. It will be presented on the Mainstage May 1 to 12.
As far as Margie is concerned, she is the best fisher in her family. Then one day she slips on the rocks and tumbles into the water. But instead of drowning, she sprouts fins and a tail and discovers she can breathe! Margie's perspective changes as she learns, from animals and elders, of her Indigenous forbearers, the Salmon People. This beautiful dance-drama encourages you to consider your own relationship to the world around you. Choreographer Michelle Olson from the Tr'ondek Hwech'in First Nation and playwright Quelemia Sparrow from the Musquem First Nation bring together their cultural perspectives and stories to create a piece that is both meaningful and delightful to all audiences.Created by Michelle Olson and Quelemia Sparrow
