In their fortieth anniversary season, the Toronto Irish Players present their first production of a work by the witty Oscar Wilde: the 1895 comedic gem, An Ideal Husband.

Wilde - witty as ever, but with some serious underlying his 'triviality' - tells the story of rising politician Sir Robert Chiltern, a model statesman and husband to an ideal wife, when he is confronted with a secret from his past by the charming but determined Mrs. Cheveley. The only one he can turn to for help is his best friend, the elegant and eligible Lord Goring, the laziest man in London.

The cast includes James Lukie as Sir Robert, Helen Cashin as Lady Chiltern, Ted Powers as Lord Goring and Heather Goodall as Mrs. Cheveley. Rounding out the performers are Sarah Winstanley, Susan Q Wilson, James Phelan, Máire Dineen, Amy LeBlanc and Tim O'Connell.

Directed by Maureen Lukie, celebrating her twentieth season with the Irish, An Ideal Husband features design work from Kenett Ng, Bernadette Hunt, Karlos Griffith and Sean Treacy.

The Toronto Irish Players (TIP) was founded by a group of new Irish immigrants in 1975 and is Toronto's only Irish community theatre group. Over the last forty years, TIP has produced over 65 plays, connecting Toronto's Irish community and sharing Irish heritage with Toronto audiences by presenting classic and modern works from Irish playwrights.

Performances take place nightly at the Alumnae Theatre, 70 Berkeley St, every Thursday to Saturday at 8pm with Sunday 2pm matinees. The show opens Thursday October 22, 2015 and runs until November 7.

Tickets can be purchased through the online box office at www.torontoirishplayers.com. Prices: $20. Students and seniors: $18.
