Theatre Francais de Toronto Stages CHER MENTEUR (DEAR LIAR: A COMEDY OF LETTERS), Now thru March 1

By:

Théâtre français de Toronto will present Québec screen and stage legends Louise Marleau and Albert Millaire in Cher menteur (Dear Liar: A Comedy of Letters) by Jerome Kilty. Translated into French by the famed poet Jean Cocteau and directed by Millaire himself, the Toronto premiere of this epistolary comedy opens at the Berkeley Street Theatre today, February 19 and runs to March 1. There will be English surtitles.

The play is an adaptation of the 41-year correspondence between George Bernard Shaw and Mrs. Patrick Campbell, the celebrated actress with whom he was "violently in love," which began in late-Victorian London in 1899 and ended with the death of "Mrs. Pat" in France in 1940.

Performances will be Wednesday to Saturday at 8 pm with a Saturday matinee March 1 at 3:30 pm and a Sunday matinee February 23 at 2:30 pm. English surtitled performances will be Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at 8 pm and March 1 at 3:30 pm.

Tickets are $44 to $48 for adults, $37 to $41 for seniors (65 and over), and $30 for artsworkers and those under 30. Special discounts are available on Wednesday nights with PWYC and on Saturday nights with $20 Rush Tickets (in both cases: purchase at the door, 1 hour prior to performance, cash only). For tickets, visit www.theatrefrancais.com or call (416) 534-6604 or 1(800) 819-4981.
